Epic Games Rewards Fans' Artistic Side

Last month, Epic Games and the deviantART community teamed up to promote an art contest in honor of the launch of Gears of War 3. Fans and artists alike were tasked with creating an image featuring at least one character from the Gears of War universe. Entries had to be the complete work of the artists; no stock images were allowed to be used. Thousands of entries were submitted but in the end, only 1 would be crowned the cream of the crop although 97 others were recognized.
The first place prize was awarded to deviantArt user ~Aeonsend for his piece entitled “Bring It” (shown above). The image depicted the silhouette of Marcus Fenix standing tall against a lightning-lit battlefield filled with Lambent and Locust. For crafting the beautiful piece, ~Aeonsend was awarded $10,000, a limited edition Gears of War 3 console, and a variety of deviantART awards.
Second place was awarded to ~wwudesign for the piece “Passage to Hell” and third place to ~JerMohler and ~Kapow2003 for their collaboration work entitled “Final Stand”. Each received a 4GB Xbox 360 console and $1,000 / $750 respectively. Everyone else remaining in the top 100 will receive $200 and a copy of Gears of War 3.
